Why do you think we are here?
To walk? To grab?
Those things are practical yes, but we were made so you could kiss the Earth and hold hands…
wrap your feet in cozy socks, play footsie, squish your toes in the mud, squeal from being tickled, caress the water, make love with the sand, dance into the morning hours so you can tiptoe to bed.
Feet, we are here for every step along the journey, and oh do we have stories to tell.
Now further north are the more poignant, distant cousins. Let’s start with fingers alone…
each one dressed in a unique maze of etchings.
We are here to count, to rest your chin upon as you ponder, to point out the subtleties & wonders & injustices, to feel all of the glorious things of this world, created simply because they are so nice to feel… a fluffy cat, the skin of another, a smooth stone.
We hear not by ears, but by touch.
Now hands… we point, we strum a guitar, we help you do cartwheels, we work together to write, to button up your coat, to flip this page so you may continue with your journey, we pray, we cradle & hold, we are here when you feel weak.
Sometimes you don’t know where to put us so you shove us in your pockets or cross us over one another…but don’t do that!
The arm and us, we like to dangle, sway, and be free to play. We want to fly through the air as you twirl about…
We want to dance too, and plop with each sigh and shrug at the mysteries of the world. We want to embrace life, to wave hello and hug goodbye. We want to bake a cake, and traverse across the monkey bars…
and the legs & feet told us to tell you, they want to skip across stones & splash into puddles, and tap impatiently because they have something important to say.
They want to run through the field then pounce up the stairs so they can jump on the bed. They want to rest underneath a blanket after a long day’s work of adventuring.
Basically this is a love letter from your 20 digits & 4 extremities to remind you what we are here for…
in case you forgot 🙂
We are not looking for an amen, a simple clap or stomp will do!
Thank you.
